“I am Meryem… rootless… without a home… to understand my situation, you need to know about my childhood… it is hard to tell… but for now, just know that I grew up without love. People like me, who have an innocent childhood without love, have to lie to fill the gap in them… until… they find someone who can fill that void. For me, that is “real motherhood”. This is what makes Defne and my paths cross. We are two mothers who will hold their babies on their laps in couple of months. We came together with the help of some secret games of fate…”
Meryem has been working at Defne and her husband Çınar’s house as a maid for a year. After a couple of months at work, Defne gets pregnant and this makes Meryem come up with an extraordinary plan because Meryem is now under her mother-in-law’s pressure for having a grandchild. She takes Defne’s pregnancy test and goes home with it. She starts her plan by giving her husband and mother-in-law the good news about a fake pregnancy and brings this plan to an end by kidnapping Defne’s newborn baby from hospital. Meryem is sure that her plan is flawless but of course there are some details she couldn’t foresee. Defne will never stop going after her baby stolen from her. In Defne’s search of her baby, she will get most of the support from her ex-husband Sadun who came into her life years later. He will do his best to help Defne find her baby. Meryem cannot establish a mother-child bond she has been dreaming of between herself and the baby Umut she stole from Defne. When the baby starts to cry because she can’t feed him, Meryem goes to Defne’s door. We may assume that Meryem regrets for her actions but a remorse feeling is never something easy to grow for her. Her past has taken many humane traits from her. She asks Defne to feed the child with her milk. Defne doesn’t know that this is her child and she grows a bond with him. It is now too hard to stay away from the baby. She wants to work at Meryem’s house again, so she persuades her for that. Meryem knows that the police units are looking for the missing baby. Therefore, she accepts Defne’s request to be aware of the police’s actions on their search for the baby. The missing baby is actually in the house. However, Meryem will cross all the lines, escalating to a point where she can even take lives to keep this secret hidden.
The entangled connection between two women and a baby is slowly untied and we see how the traumas of the past shape our very present day. In our story, we will show everyone that motherhood is the most precious value blessed to women, along with its extraordinary effort.
To all mothers with love…
